HEAR FROM OUR MEMBERS

Ellen Port joined American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA in early 2023 and has attended our New York events.

She shares: “I am a proud member and supporter of American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA. As a Global Nomad for over 30 years, with a passion for art and design, I am curious about all the ways we connect our common humanity and foster inclusivity. I appreciate art as a way to express ourselves and share our stories, and particularly love the aspect of the Zeitz MOCAA Vision to “encourage intercultural understanding and strive for access to all”.

Halim A. Flowers joined us as a member in 2024 to support the creative community of Zeitz MOCAA.

In 1997, Halim A. Flowers was arrested at the age of 16 and given two life sentences. His experiences were filmed in the Emmy award-winning documentary Thug Life In DC. In 2005, he started his own publishing company, through which he published 11 books. In 2019, Halim was released from prison after serving 22 years and began practicing as a full time artist.

He shares, “With each stroke of color, text and iconography, I intend to remove all social constructs that prevent humanity from seeing with the collective heart beyond the confines of the individual mind. For me, every canvas becomes a weapon of mass construction.”

José Carlos Diaz is the Susan Brotman Deputy Director for Art at Seattle Art Museum. He joined American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA at our inaugural member event during Art Basel Miami Beach.

He shares: "I've joined Zeitz MOCAA as an American Friend because I believe in supporting art from across the globe. The team at Zeitz MOCAA lead an excellent curatorial program that continues to gain international attention."
